The Data Governance Foundation Principal is a senior-level role focused on defining and implementing the Enterprise Data Governance Strategy and the Data Risk and Control Framework, with a specific emphasis on the financial sector. This individual will act as a critical link between the Finance Data organization and the International Business divisions.
The core of the role involves designing and deploying robust data governance processes to ensure that business units, functions, and regions successfully adopt the firm's data strategy and risk control frameworks. A key responsibility is to support international business partners in achieving full compliance with the Citi Data Governance Policy (CDGP) for all data governed by Finance Data Domains.
This position requires articulating the enterprise data governance strategy and its progress to a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leadership and regulators. The ideal candidate will be adept at identifying new data requirements from consumers, analyzing data quality issues, and developing and implementing remediation solutions.
Success in this role is critically dependent on the ability to query data using SQL, perform analysis with tools like Excel and Python, and effectively present key findings and messages to senior management.
Responsibilities
Liaise with functions, lines of business and regional Federated Chief Data Office to understand and align Data Governance and/or Data Risk and Controls strategy related work
Develop approach and prioritization framework to define and track the prioritized scope for the enterprise data program
Integrate and align functions, lines of business, and regional data roadmaps into an enterprise data roadmap to deliver on the prioritized scope
Provide advisory services to functions, lines of business and regions on prioritization and requirements as needed
Analyze and identify overlapping initiatives to resolve duplication of effort
Partner with ECDO Function Heads to develop capability maturity framework
Develop materials to effectively and concisely articulate progress on the data governance strategy for senior leadership and regulatory updates
Liaise with metrics team to articulate clear requirements for objective measures necessary to support Data Governance storylines with key stakeholders
Qualifications
Financial Industry Expertise: Extensive experience in Banking and Financial Services is mandatory.
Regulatory Reporting: Deep knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements and processes within the financial sector.
Global Reporting Standards: A clear understanding of the differences between US and international financial regulatory reporting.
Financial Products Knowledge: Wide knowledge base of financial products, including derivatives, securities, credit cards, and more.
Regulatory Frameworks: Experience creating and executing data frameworks to meet regulatory commitments and enhance risk management.
Compliance and Governance: Working knowledge of Data Operating Models, Data Governance, and Data Compliance practices within large financial services firms.
Mandated Delivery: Proven ability to work across a global organization to deliver on mandated reporting requirements.
Regulatory Change Management: Project and Change Management experience, particularly in data transformation projects driven by regulatory needs.
Supervisory Expectations: A strong understanding of relevant banking regulations and the supervisory expectations for large financial institutions.
Data Governance Tools: Experience leveraging tools for data glossary, lineage, and quality to drive governance and meet compliance standards.
Education
Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred

This role will act as the conduit between the Finance Data organization and the International Business, supporting data consumers to identify new requirements, analyze potential data quality issues, develop solutions and support remediation through to implementation and validation.
Role will support the International business in all aspects of achieving Citi Data Governance Policy (CDGP) compliance for data governed by Finance Data Domains.
Ability to query data using SQL, analyze with tools such as Excel and Python, and present key messages to senior management is critical to be successful in this role. Additional critical skills/knowledge:
- Wide knowledge base of Financial Products (Derivatives, Securities, Credit Cards, etc…)
- Understanding of differences in regulatory reporting between US and non-US reports
- Ability to, and experience with, working across a global organization to deliver on mandated reporting requirements
