What you'll do:
As Vice President AI Engineering Team Lead at MUFG in London you will be entrusted with building a high-performing team dedicated to designing and supporting innovative AI solutions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing talented engineers while overseeing end-to-end delivery of generative AI models and machine learning applications tailored for diverse business needs. You will work collaboratively with digital transformation experts to translate complex requirements into actionable roadmaps that align with organisational goals. By establishing rigorous engineering standards and quality controls you will ensure every solution meets regulatory expectations while delivering measurable value. Your role also includes evaluating new technologies for strategic fit; managing project lifecycles from inception through release; providing multi-level technical support; defining success metrics; tracking outcomes; sharing knowledge across teams; and championing best practices throughout MUFG’s technology landscape. Manage and develop a team of approximately five AI Engineers, fostering their growth and capability while setting clear objectives and priorities.

Oversee the design, delivery, and ongoing support of high-quality AI solutions including generative AI models, RAG-based architectures, agentic systems, and machine learning applications.

Collaborate closely with Digital Transformation teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements, shape opportunity pipelines, translate demand into practical roadmaps, and plan team capacity.

Establish and evolve architectural principles, engineering standards, reusable patterns, and quality controls that underpin the development and operation of robust AI solutions.

Evaluate technology options such as platforms, models, vendors, and delivery approaches based on business value, cost-effectiveness, risk management, strategic alignment, and long-term supportability.

Manage the full team development lifecycle including backlog prioritisation, estimates, milestones tracking, risk assessment, issue resolution, dependencies management, documentation oversight, release readiness checks, and reporting.

Provide comprehensive L1,L2,L3 support across all services owned by the team ensuring dependable service delivery to multiple business areas.

Work with Digital Transformation partners to define success measures for projects and track outcomes using evidence-based methods to improve or scale solutions as appropriate.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in AI engineering while providing expert guidance across products, disciplines, methodologies; ensure best practices are followed for maximum business impact.

Collaborate across AMD’s Digital Delivery pillar to share expertise with other teams; proactively drive cross-team initiatives that enhance ways of working.
What you bring:
To excel as Vice President AI Engineering Team Lead at MUFG you will bring substantial experience managing engineering teams within complex organisations—demonstrating empathy for your colleagues’ development while maintaining high standards of accountability. Your expertise spans designing advanced generative AI systems leveraging RAG architectures/vector databases/model evaluation frameworks/LLMOps practices alongside deep familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure/AWS. You possess thorough knowledge of machine learning/application development lifecycles coupled with an ability to set technical standards/document architectural choices/evaluate competing technologies/vendors/delivery models. Your track record includes providing multi-tiered support across varied business domains—ensuring dependable operations even under pressure—and navigating security/privacy/governance/model risk issues inherent in regulated sectors such as financial services. Strong communication skills enable you to connect with senior leaders/present compelling strategies/build consensus around key recommendations while your analytical mindset supports evidence-driven outcome measurement/improvement initiatives. Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams with proven ability to line manage direct reports effectively in a supportive manner.

Extensive background designing production-grade generative AI solutions including RAG architectures, vector databases, model evaluation frameworks and LLMOps practices.

Deep familiarity with Microsoft Azure or AWS AI platforms/services enabling you to deliver scalable cloud-based solutions.

Comprehensive understanding of machine learning lifecycles as well as application development processes relevant to enterprise environments.

Ability to define technical standards/reference patterns; document architectural decisions; assess alternative technologies/vendors/delivery approaches for optimal outcomes.
