What You'll Do

The CE Tax Senior Manager will work as part of a team of tax professionals dedicated to regional and global corporate tax activities and part of a wider 50+ person tax team. The CE Tax Senior Manager will report to the EMESA Tax Director. This person must be an effective leader who is able to work independently in a fast-paced environment to manage many conflicting priorities. They will be required to coordinate and business partner with other Tax, Legal and Finance stakeholders to ensure that cross border compliance is appropriately handled to meet global tax compliance obligations.

The EMESA Tax Senior Manager will support all facets of the CE (Central Europe, i.e. Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland) Tax region in respect of Corporate Tax matters, including but not limited to:

General

  • Work closely with EMESA Tax Director and Senior Director and Head of Global Tax to develop the EMESA Tax team strategies relating to the CE region to support a growing region across the organization and oversee day to day compliance matters within the EMESA Tax team. This will include the transfer of the compliance work to Global Tax Reporting Services (GTRS).
  • Build and maintain key stakeholder relationships with Heads of Finance in respect of all Corporate Tax matters.
  • Provide critical evaluation feedback and help support further functionality changes with Corporate Tax Compliance technology alongside GTRS.
  • Alongside local finance, lead the relationship with Tax Authorities including risk matters and audits in respect of corporate taxes and PE issues alongside Transfer Pricing, Global Mobility Tax and the Tax Controversy function.
  • Play leading role in collaboration with local Finance to ensure the Global Tax strategy and policies are followed and tax risks are being managed and monitored.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with Treasury, Legal, PSG and local Finance on all corporate tax matters.
  • Develop and implement forward-looking tax approaches across the CE region, identifying opportunities to optimize BCG's effective tax rate, manage permanent establishment exposure, and support business-driven structuring decisions in close coordination with the EMESA Tax Director and Senior Director.
  • Partner closely with a globally distributed Tax team with hubs in Boston, London and India, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture across time zones and ensuring alignment on global tax strategy, shared workstreams and consistent ways of working.
  • Support cross-functional teaming with colleagues across the Global Tax function, contributing to firmwide initiatives and knowledge-sharing, while acting as a key point of contact for the CE region within a high-performing international team.
  • Oversee day to day relationship with BCG’s external global tax vendor who provide tax compliance and advisory support.
  • Keep track of budget requirements and spend for Corporate Tax work in EMESA with external vendors and ensure competitive offering in place. Continue to ensure BCG receives high level of service in accordance with contract SLAs.
  • Oversee local office processes in respect of risk management and controls to ensure right amount of tax is being paid at the time relating to BCG’s Corporate Taxes.
  • Support and collaborate with key stakeholders across Finance and HR to handle policy matters relating to Corporate Taxes.
  • Work closely with Tax Senior Director to ensure right level of operational support is in place to support our tax strategies and further develop team strategies.
  • Ensure team is receiving the appropriate technical and soft skill training to develop expertise. Provide line manager support to more junior staff in the team.
  • Goal setting and semi-annual reviews will be administered and supported by this role however in consultation with the EMESA Tax Director.
  • Provide tax support to the commercial teams on contract discussions and considerations.
  • New office openings and non-office locations advice with regard to corporate tax implications.
  • US GAAP reporting – oversight during the annual compliance process.

  • 6+ years of either consulting or industry side tax experience
  • Substantial experience with cross border tax matters in multiple country tax jurisdictions with specialist knowledge of Germany (essential).
  • Understanding of accounting rules and mobility tax concepts to take a broader view on corporate tax topics.
  • High degree of stakeholder management skills to manage interactions with senior colleagues in Finance.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and orally as well as ability to listen, feedback, negotiate and conflict resolution skills.
  • Interest in further developing learning in finance and outside tax.

Experience and Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, tax or law graduate degree
  • Successful German Tax Advisor qualification (“Steuerberaterexamen”)
  • Experience across corporate tax (essential), tax treaty matters (essential), and transfer pricing (preference).
  • Knowledgeable on OECD initiatives and European Tax Law.
  • The ability to prioritize when working on multiple projects and the confidence to engage and integrate directly into our finance teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Fluent in German and English (spoken and written).
